St Christophers School reign supreme in concluded Mt Kenya Swimming Championships

Over 200 swimmers achieved remarkable times, qualifying them for the upcoming Kampala Invitational Swimming Championship set to take place in April 2024 in Kampala
St. Christopher’s School for another year cemented their status as the best swimming team in the central region after clinching the Mt. Kenya Aquatics Invitational Championships for a second consecutive year over the weekend.
The school, led by coach Saumu Ally, secured the coveted rotational shield yet again in the event staged at Nyahururu Elite School, having garnered 4183 points in the combined team scores.
Following them in second place were the aforementioned hosts, who scored 2,691, with Golden Dolphins Swimming Academy following in third with 862 points.
The event drew over 300 swimmers from 10 schools including: Lizar School Naivasha, Nyahururu High School, Melvin Jones, Premier Swim Club, Ruiru Secondary School, Leshao Boys, and Condor Swim Club.
Among the stand out performers were Jewel Kihoro, Komo Komo, Henry Joseph and Elvis Gathingira who claimed respective age-group victories in the 50 SC Meter Freestyle, while Samara Wanjiru, Tracie Chepkoech, Trish Imani and Luisa Da Grasa won in the girls’ event.
In the standout result of the team events, Liazar School emerged winners of the boys’ 14-15 years 100 SC Meter Freestyle Relay, with St. Christophers scooping the 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-15 boys and girls categories.
Meanwhile, the championship was honored by the presence of Hon. Waithaka Mwangi, the former Governor of Nyandarua and Director of Nyahururu Elite School, who extended his gratitude to the Mt. Kenya Aquatics officials for their relentless efforts in organizing the inaugural swimming championship.
He also emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in enhancing swimming and other aquatic sports within the region, while highlighting the positive impact of the recently implemented Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which emphasizes the importance of swimming skills among school-aged children.
